March 2020

Happy Age Seniors met March 11 in the church fellowship hall. Glenda Overcash welcomed everyone to the St. Patrick's Day meeting. Glenda gave an interesting synopsis of the monk becoming a Saint. "Happy Birthday" was sung to Virginia Garver, Cynthia Foster and Gaye Bost. Activity sheets were on tables throughout the room. Later, Faye Merkt led the business part. She asked for assistance in planning future group activities such as Classic Restaurant in Denton, NC. Faye included an update on the beach trip, entertainment and suggestions. Sarah Higgins led devotions, "What We Can Learn from St. Patrick's Day". After prayer and blessing, the group enjoyed a delicious meal fo Irish potato soup, condiments and desserts before being dismissed. No April meeting. Planning for beach trip in November! February 2020

Valentine's Day was the thene as the Happy Age Senoirs met in the church Youth and Family Center on February 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Glenda Overcash welcomed everyone including special guest, Buddy Rhodes and wife, Bernice. Buddy was really entertaining with songs, jokes and funny stories. A special homemade quilt (red, white and blue) was presented to Buddy and his wife. Beverley Barringer led the group with devotions and blessing. Lunch of lasagna and trimmings were enjoyed by all. Great having Paston John join us too. Our version of Bingo called COURT, was played with winners given a prize. Candy jar winner went to Wayne Kane. NExt meeting will be March 11, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the church for our St. Patrick's Day party and lunch. We will make Irish potato soup. Please sign up and let Faye know if you can bring drinks, crackers or dessert.

January 2020

The Happy Age Senoirs met Wednesday, January 8th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel for our soup lunchon. After Faye welcomed everyone, we had our business meeting. First we elected officers for 2020-2021. Our officers are: President - Faye Merkt; Secretary/Treasurer - Beverley Barringer; Devotional Coordinator - Sharon Hodges. Different people will present monthly devotions. Karen Overcash and Diane Kane were recognized and thanked for their service as Secretary/Treasurer and Devotions Leaders. "Happy Birhtday" was sung to Anne Sebastian. We will have a Valentine Luncheon in Februrary and a St. Parick's Day party in March. Diane Kane had our devotions entitle. "And Still He Loves Us." The message was: God loves us even with our shortcomings. After devotions, we had fun as we divided into groups to play different games; such as Uno and Train Dominoes. For lunch, we enjoyed various kinds of soups, ham and cheese sliders and desserts. Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 12th at 11 a.m. in the building out back for our annual Valentine party and lunch. Bring a $1.00 bingo prize. There will be a special guest at the Valentine party. Buddy Rhoes will be entertaining with a musical performance. (He graduated with Sarah Higgins and entertains at their reunsions and is very funny). Please sign-up with Faye.

December 2019

Christmas was in the air as the Happy Age Seniors met together in the church chapel Wed., Dec. 11 at 11:00 a.m. for our Christmas luncheon. After Faye Merkt welcomed everyone, she recognized our new members, Cindy and Jimmy Basinger and Cynthia Foster. It was also great to have Pastor Joe with us! We sang Happy Brithday to Maggie Kelly, Diane Kane, Kiana Sinz, Jimmy Basinger, Kathy Johnson and Larry Sides. Faye reminded us that if Rowan County School are closed due to inclement weather, our group will not meet. Diane Kane had our devotions entitled, "Wonder". We enjoyed our delicious covered dish meal and exchanging gifts! Our next meeting will be held, Wed., Jan. 8th at 10:30am at the church in the Chapel for game day with soup lunch to follow. November 2019

On November 13th, thirty-four Happy Age Senoirs left Mt. Moriah and headed for their annual beach trip to Beach Cove Resort, Mrytle Beach. Whiel at the beah, we enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel and Bejamin's Orginial Seafood Restaurant. We also enjoyed the Christmas shows at the Carolina Opry and The Alabama Theater. On Thursday morning, some of use went to the Dicken's Christmas show and festivals while others went shopping at Hamrick's. That afternoon, we met for devotions led by Kay Overcash. Afterwards, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Don Sebastian. Norma Peeler also had a November birthday. Our first-timers joinign us this year were Connie Corriher, Cynthia Foster, Kay & Dennis Efird, Merri Jo & Laird Freeze. We had a wonderful trip and lots of fun and fellowship! Special thanks to Sarah Higgins for making our name tags, Glenda Overcash for planning fun activities during the bus ride and Larry Sides for driving the bus and getting us back safely. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 11th at 11:00 am in the church chapel. We will have our Chritmas luncheon (covered dish). Please bring a $5 gift to exchange. August 2019

     The Happy Age Seniors met on Wed., Aug. 14, at 8:30 a.m. to finish setting up and getting ready for a yard sale we were sponsoring from 9:00 to 12 noon.  It was opened to the public.  We had a really good morning!  We had lots of items sold and lots of people who had bought raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt made by our Quilters.  $533 was collected from the raffle.  A total of $368 was made from the yard sale.  The proceeds will go toward the WELCA project of purchasing darkening shades for the Chapel.  After the yard sale, we had hot dogs and delicious desserts for lunch.  Afterwards, we had a drawing for the quilt.  Faye Merkt was the winner!  Diane Kane had our devotions.  We sang “Happy Birthday” to Faye Merkt.  We adjourned after singing “Blest Be the Tie”.  For our September meeting, the HAS will meet at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, for a trip to Gastonia to visit the museum.  Please sign up with Faye.  
    Last beach trip payment is Sept. 8. 

JULY 2019

The Happy Age Seniors met on Wednesday, July 10th, at 10:30 am for a visit to Price of Freedom Museum. Diane Kane had our devotions before we care pooled to the museum. We browsed around looking at picutres of Veterans in our community (past and present) and paraphernalia of war items, representing all brances of the service. Afterwards, our group went to the auditorium where Mary Lambert introduced us to Arthur (Art) Rogers. He was a sceintist on the Manhattan Project during WWII. At 93 years old, he shared his memories and pictures he had taken during a time so infamous. He gave us a very fascinating program enjoyed by all! After the program, we had a brief meeting. We sang 'Happy Birthday' to Kay Overcash. Janet Parsons also had a July birthday. After we left the museum, we all met at Porky's II in China Grove for lunch and fellowship!


MAY 2019

The Happy Age Seniors met on Wed., May 8, with 18 members and 2 visitors present. Glenn McCorkle gave us a tour of Thyatira Presbyterian Church and Museum. The church is beautiful and has a lot of the old items that have been used for many years. Our next meeting will be on June 12 at 10 a.m. at the church for Game Day. Bring any games you would like to play and your skills to show everybody how to play and learn how to play new ones. We will share subs for lunch. If you would like to bring a dessert, drink or chips, let Faye know. Also, I need a count of who is coming by Monday morning so I can order the subs.

Beach trip payment dates are June 9, July 14, Aug. 11 and Sept. 9. If you would like to go, please let me know so I can get the rooms reserved. $50 each month or you may pay for it all at any time.


APRIL 2019

On Wednesday, April 10, the Happy Age Seniors were welcomed by Faye Merkt.  She led a short business session then Diane kane had our devotions.  Larry Sides drove a bus full of seniors from Mt. Moriah to The Slot Car Track Raceway & Hobby Shop.  We would like to thank Shelley and Walker for their great hospitality.  Everyone had a great, fun time.  Following our racing, we ate lunch in the café upstairs. Thanks to Larry for a safe trip.  We ended with “Bless be the Tie”.  We will meet on Wed., May 8, at 9:30 AM for a tour of Thyatira Presbyterian Church Museum and Cemetery.  We will eat lunch before returning home.  Sign up with Faye.
The Happy Age Seniors annual beach trip is scheduled for Nov. 13-15.  Please sign up ASAP so we can get a count for the number of rooms needed.  Payments will start in June or you may pay it all at one time.  Payment dates are June 9, July 14, Aug. 11 and Sept. 9.  Cost is $200 for a double room.  Breakfast at Beach Cove (included), dinner at Cracker Barrel (on your own), dinner at Benjamin’s Seafood (included), Carolina Opry, and Alabama Christmas Show.  Thursday morning will be on your own or shopping or craft show.  Thursday afternoon will be devotions at 2 PM.  If you have questions or need to sign up, please call Faye.

MARCH 2019

Irish music and shamrocks set the atmosphere as we celebrated St. Patrick's Day at our Happy Age Senoirs' gathering. Twenty-six seniors met at the church Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, March 20th at 10 AM. Glenda Overcash welcomed everyone. She shared fun riddles and the history of Saint Patrick. During the morning, we enjoyed moving around in seven different stations as we engaged in fun St. Paddy's Day activities.  Afterwards, we got a laugh sharing our Leprechaun names? Special awards were given to the winners of the activities.

Special recognition and thanks were given to Glenda Overcash, our Activities Leader. Faye Merkt had a brief business meeting before devotions.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to those with March birthdays. Reminder to sing up for the annual beach trip as soon as possible scheduled for November 13-15, 2019. A memorial was given in the loving memory of Gladys Weddington.

Diane Kane had devotions and shared an inspirational reading with the message. "We are called to witness and evangelize". After the blessing, we had a delicious lunch of "Irish" potato soup and St. Patrick's cookies and cakes.

Happy Age Senoirs will meet at the church on Wednesday, April 10th at 9:30 AM for our trip to The Slot Car Track Raceway and Hobby Shop (owned by Shelley and Randy McAnulty). We plan to stop and eat lunch on our return home.


The Happy Age Senoirs met on Wednesday, February 13th at 11:00 AM in the Youth and Family Center. This was the 11th Annual Valentine Luncheon. Glenda Overcash welcomed everyone. Wayne Kane, Diane Kane, Sarah Higgins, Kathy Johnson and Mary Lambert were thanked for decorating.

Diane Kane shared devotions "Love is in the Air". The message was that GOd's love for us and the love that is shared with one another, will never pass away. Show some acts of kindness to those you love before and after Valentine's Day. Let love be in the air at all times!

After devotions and the blessing, lasagna, salad and garlic bread were enjoyed for lunch. 

Faye Merkt led the meeting. Discussion was held on possibly extending the annual beach trip to three nights instead of two. After voting, it was decided that the group will continue to stay two nights, Wednesday and Thursday and return on Friday.

Happy Birthday was sang to Pat Tallent and Carolyn Daugherty. Cards sent to Dot Freeze, Gladys Weddington, Claudine Barnhardt who celebrated February birthdays.

Larry and Luanne Sides were crowned King and Queen. Afterward, games such as COURT (version of Bingo) was placed. Everyone won at least one game and a cool prize. The fellowship was adjourned after singing "Blest Be the Tie". 

Next meeting Wednesday, March 13th at 10:00 AM for St. Patrick's Day Party. Seniors welcome for fun games and activities followed by lunch of Irish Potato Soup.
